It has just been announced by Scientists overseas that another Earthquake of a small magnitude is forecast for Newcastle in the coming weeks!!!
The public are confused and distressed as they do not understand why another Earthquake could occur in their hometown! They look to their Government but they can offer no response, telling the public to just 'be prepared'!
They are now looking to you as their local Scientist for answers.
As a Scientist:
It is your job to help the citizens of Newcastle (the Novacastrians). You will need to consider all you see and read if you are to understand the causes and effects of Earthquakes. Interviews can be demanding, but with preparation your answers should be both informative and empowering for the local citizens who are depending upon it. Panic and rumours are rife, as on the street everyone is recalling the 'big one' of 1989. Many Novacastrians believe it could very well be another large scale Earthquake, whilst others claim the town to be just 'cursed' with bad luck.
As a Reporter:
As a reporter, it is your role to provide information directly to the public, as they want facts and they want them now. Already some news reports are talking about water and food shortages, and the chance of lives being lost. As a valued and respected reporter in town you need to be honest with your public regarding the size and magnitude of this predicted Earthquake, as sometimes it is not all about creating a 'great story' but just the reality of the situation!
